Lesson 1 - Greetings From Around the World!

Part A - Step One

José is from Argentina
and a Mestizo because his ancestors are Native Indian and Spanish. José
speaks Spanish!
Let's draw José!

Head - Draw the head by
first drawing a large circle. Add two smaller circles in the middle
for his eyes.
- Hat - Draw the rim of his
hat by making a large oval shape about half-way down the boy's head
- Body - The boy's body is
basically a square shape, angled slightly to the left
- Arms - Draw the arms as
shown. The boy's hands can be made by drawing small circles and drawing
the fingers as small oval shapes
- Legs - First draw the boy's
feet as two oval shapes. Connect the body and the feet with lines as
shown, making his legs
Aziza is from Egypt and lives
by the Nile. She speaks Arabic.
Let's draw Aziza!

Head - draw the head also
as a large circle with two smaller circles for eyes
- Body - like the José,
the Aziza's body is basiclaly a rectangular shape. Add the beginnings
of her skirt around the rectangle as shown.
- Arms - draw the arms as
shown, making the hands from a circle and drawing ovals for the fingers.
- Feet - Aziza's feet are
just two oval shapes drawn at the bottom of the square.
Part A - Step Two

Finishing the cartoon of
José
-
Head - Erase all lines
not needed (as shown). Finish his head by adding his ear, nose, mouth
and hair. Add the top of his hat as shown.
- Body - Make the original
lines of the rectangle slightly curved so they look more natural. Be
sure to add all the details such as his neck-tie, the buttons on his
shirt, his belt and his shorts.
- Greeting - José is
from Arg entina and speaks Spanish. He says hi by saying ¡HOLA!
Write his greeting in his speech-bubble (as shown).
Finishing the cartoon of
Aziza
-
Head - complete her head
by adding her scarf (as shown), nose and mouth. Make sure the scarf
"puffs" out around her head and neck rather than being made
from the original circle making up her head.
- Body - add the details to
her body like her buttoned skirt and sandals
- Greeting - Aziza is saying
"Hello" in Arabic. She pronounces it "Salam". Write
the Aziza's greeting in her speech-bubble.
Part B - Step One

Sunita lives in Nepal at the
base of Mount Everest. She is Hindu.
Let's draw Sunita!

Head - Sunita's head is
a large circle with two smaller circles for eyes. Add a small circle
on the left side for her ear and a big bow on the top of her head.
You can begin to see where we will draw her hair by making
- the lines for her hair-line.
(as shown)
- Body - Sunita's body is
a rectangular shape. Add ovals at the bottom of her chin for her neck
and buttons on her blouse.
- Arms - Begin by making her
hands which look like two pie-slices placed in the rectangle slightly
to the right. Add the lines for her arms as shown.
- Legs - Sunita's legs are
m ade of two ovals placed close together. Draw another two ovals, creating
her feet at the bottom of her legs.
Yo is the character you'll
always find in these cartoons! Yo speaks English.
Lets draw Yo!

Head - First draw two
large ovals for his eyes and a check mark for his mouth. Above his
eyes draw Yo's crazy hair. (as shown).
- Body - Below Yo's mouth,
draw his neck and shirt collar. (as shown) Below this, draw Yo's body
as a large rectangle tilted on its side. His feet can be drawn as two
ovals near the base of the rectangle.
- Arms - First draw his hands
using a circle and ovals for fingers (as shown). Connect the hands to
the body wth long lines that make his arms.
Part B - Step Two

Let's finish drawing Sunita!

Head- Finish her head
by adding her nose, mouth and hair. Make her hair flow out from her
bow and into braids by the side of her face. (as shown) Add bows at
the bottom of her braids.
- Body - Erase all lines not
needed. Add details such as her collar on her blouse, her skirt and
her shoes.
- Greeting - Sunita speaks
Hindi. Her word for "Hello" in Hindi, would be pronounced:
"Nameste". Write Sunita's greeting in her speech-bubble. (as
shown)
Let's finish drawing Yo!

Head - Add Yo's nose,
ears and cheek-line above his smile
- Body - Erase all lines not
needed and make the original rectangle slightly curved for a more natural
look. Finish Yo by drawing in the lines for his pants and legs, as well
as the line for his collar.
- Greeting - Yo speaks English.
Write his big "Hello!" in his speech-bubble. (as shown)
